"A good hospital, but ....."

About: Derriford Hospital

My partner was a patient initially in Pencarrow and then Moorgate. The staff were excellent throughout her stay and I thank them for their care. For much of the time in Moorgate the nurses appeared to have too many things to do. This for example resulted in my partner sitting out for longer than she really should have been. Probably there is a need for more nursing staff at certain times of the day. Her consultants gave her the best possible treatment and care in the circumstances and I thank them for that. The only gripe I have with the hospital - and this has been the case with every hospital I have come into contact with - is that there does not appear to be any procedure in place for communicating with relatives. There appear to be administrative staff in the hospital to deal with every other aspect of hospital life, but no-one to communicate with relatives. The hospital should have staff whose sole function is to monitor each patient's treatment plan and keep relatives informed and involved.
