"Maternity Appointment - Asked to attend"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

When my wife got to the appointment, she was asked why she was there! We didn't know as we got phoned the day before to attend at 09:15 at the hospital - we thought they might need to examine her as she is apx 38wks pregnant. I also called to confirm the appointment but they wouldn't tell me what it was for - they didn't know at the reception and was wary about giving me any info as I wasn't the one with the appointment. When she got there they asked her for information that she wasn't told to bring! utterly pointless waste of time for everyone. If you need information from people there are far better ways to do it than ask them to attend an appointment. We have since arranged to email the info required - obviously a task that doesn't require an appointment. I hope we didn't take up anyone's time that needed it more badly than us, however, getting the time back for us will not be possible - we all have better things to do.

Dear reviewer, Thanks for taking the time to post your comment. We are really sorry to hear about your recent experience of our maternity services at the Royal. This is not standard practice and we would like to look into your concerns so we can improve our service for future patients and not waste their time coming into the hospital if they don’t need to. To enable us to do so, please can you send your details to me - Louise Harvey, Midwifery Matron, Louise.harvey@uhl-tr.nhs.uk and I’ll investigate. Kind regards, Louise Harvey, Midwifery Matron, Leicester's Hospitals
