I have just had a successful operation in the hospital and would like to thanks all the staff who performed the operation and who looked after me post-op. It took me a while to get over the general anaesthetic and perhaps there could have been a bit more advice/assistance on side effects but I was well looked after. Be prepared with reading materials and don't forget your charger for your mobile device (everyone seems to use them on the wards these days) as there is always a lot of waiting around. The biggest issue was getting the operation scheduled as it looks like I was lost in the system. Advice to people - keep chasing up and checking that you are still on the waiting list. Escalate to PALS if needed but be reasonable with your follow up intervals. Do not rely on leaving a message - these tend not to be followed up on and asked to be contacted. The NHS provides an excellent service and everyone is doing their best.
