"will My daughter get to her prom?!"

About: The Maidstone Hospital

My 18 year old daughter who has been a type 1 diabetic for 4 years was admitted through A&E with extremely high ketones...DKA. She has not been poorly with diabetes before, her control has been so good. She was very poorly when we bought her in, vomiting, lethargic dehydrated and frightened. She had the most amazing treatment from every single doctor, nurse, porter every person we encountered were absolutely brilliant. She came into A&E at 4.15pm and her school leavers prom was the following evening! This information spread to every doctor and nurse who treated her. No promises were made as her ketones were high and no chances were going to be taken with her safety, but over the next 24 hour period, and I was there the whole time and witnessed it, the medical staff did everything to get her well enough to attend her prom. She missed the afternoon getting ready with her friends, but tired, bruised and somewhat puffy ( from all the fluids ) she made it! We would just like to say a heartfelt thank you for all that you did, all the information we were given, and let you know she really enjoyed the prom. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your kind compliments, following your daughter's recent A&E admission. We were very glad to hear how happy you were with the care and treatment received and equally glad to hear that your daughter did manage to attend her prom and enjoyed herself! We will pass on your thanks to the Matron for A&E, who will be able to relay your message to all those staff involved in your daughter's care. Please do not hesitate in contacting the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01622 224960 or by emailing mtw-tr.palsoffice@nhs.net, if we can be of further assistance.
