What I liked

had total hip replacement, had a spinal block, operation was almost enjoyable, my favourite radio stn. , Classic FM playing in background, staff all lovely, both in operating theatre and rovery ward. Pity the surgeon didn't have the manners to greet me before he started work, seeing as I was fully conscious, but he did a brilliant job and I'm grateful

What could be improved

I was on Shopland Ward and thought itg was a disgrace. The whole area seemd grubby, out of date and uncared for, the staff were mostly surly, ill-tempered and unhelpful; there was absolutely no bedside manner. there were 2 bedpans between 30 people so it was often a long wait to get one. I have a lot of medications and these were withheld for an unacceptably long time on my day of admission and again on my day of discharge. 18 hours after my operation I collapsed and it was realised I probably needed a blood transfusion; it took 24 hours to prove this and another 24 before I actually got it! All in all, not a nice experience.

Anything else?

I've been in other wards of the hospital and found absolutely nothing wanting and been treated very well. I'm also a regular patient in Rheumatology and think it's a wonderful outpatient's dept. Staff are lovely, waiting area is comfortable and everyone really cares. So it's not all bad news!!!
