"I had to go to A&E after shutting ..."

About: Southend Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had to go to A&E after shutting my hand in a car door. The receptionist was very attentive and the area was clean. I got seen fairly quickly considering it was A&E. I waited 3/4 hour for an x-ray, which, when it was so busy I think must been quite quickly.

What could be improved

Staff took a while to retrieve the yellow x-ray cards from the box in A&E which meant some other patients waited at least 20 minutes before their card was even taken.

Anything else?

I have been to A&E before and all the staff have been very helpful however sometimes I've had to wait up to 3 hours in total to see someone and leave when A&E hardly seemed busy, at least with no serious injuries.

Many thanks for your comments. It is true that there can be delays in the A&E department and we would like to reassure you that every effort is made to ensure patients are seen as swiftly as possible.
