"Surely the patient has a choice?"

(as the patient),

I was in the middle of my consultation with the consultant when one of the healthcare assistants walked in and sat down. No introduction, no explanation as to why They were there! No body said that the staff sometime sit in on consultations and there are no notices in the waiting room to suggest this might happen. If this is to do with teaching surely the patient has a choice and should consent to this?

We were disappointed to read your feedback as we would encourage staff to introduce themselves and explain their role. Nurses and Health Care Assistants are often involved in consultations but this should be explained at the start of the session. We are sorry that this has happened and we will pass on your feedback to the Rheumatology team.
