"With Thanks to The A&E Team"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

Took my wife to A&E at 02:30hrs on Friday 10th July. I want to praise and thank the receptionis, the Nurse that assessed my wife's condition and the Doctor who made us feel we were in the best of hands. They are a great team! Unfortunately there was one member of staff that did not impress in terms of their manner. They installed the cannula and took bloods. They have absolutely no 'bed side manner' - they hardly spoke and worked at a snails pace. They are clearly competent but really needs to work on how they treat people.

Dear David Firstly, we hope that your wife has made a good recovery following her illness. Thank you also for praising our A&E team and we have passed your nice comments onto our receptionists, nurses and doctors. It is lovely to hear their efforts are so well appreciated. However, we are disappointed to hear about the member of staff you were unhappy with. We agree that ‘bedside manor’ and an ability to communicate well with patients and reassure them is very important. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with your further and see if there is a way to help the individual involved to improve their communication skills. If you would like to do so then please contact me directly on 01932 722091. Many thanks Helen Lawrence Lead Nurse, A&E
