I found the standard of maternity care at Kings to be utterly outstanding from my first scan to the day I left after the birth. I was treated with kindness and compassion throughout. I was aiming for a VBAC and throughout my antenatal care and during my very long labour every member of staff made me feel supported and well cared for. The antenatal care was faultless - highly intelligent, competent and compassionate midwives made me feel confident I could achieve a VBAC. I went post dates and decided on an induction. The induction midwives were upbeat and jolly even though they were racing around an extremely busy ward trying to attend to everyone at once and doing a great job, the outstanding anaesthetist calmed me when I was unable to deal with the contractions any longer and requested an epidural, the labour midwives were calm and supportive and at the end when I needed an assisted delivery but was adamant I didn't want forceps the doctors did an incredible job delivering my daughter by ventouse. I had immediate skin to skin contact, delayed cord clamping and the atmosphere was calm throughout and I was overjoyed I had achieved a VBAC. I found the post natal care fantastic. I had some bleeding which was immediately attended to and sorted out. Even the food was good and how many hospitals can boast that!! I found the whole experience faultless. I cannot thank everyone at Kings enough who helped bring my daughter into the world and left me feeling on a high after a tough but very positive birth experience. You are all incredible people and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
