I was in ward 8 for iol with my 2nd child. The staff in the ward were good but I felt I had to plead to get transferred to the labour ward as I was feeling a lot of pressure and wanted to push.
Eventually my partner and I were transferred to ward 7 (labour ward) with a student midwife. We were left in the room when my waters broke. I was panicking as was my partner because there was no one with us. I pressed the button to get a nurse and my partner ran out the room to get someone as I was pushing.
A lovely midwife called Toni came in and realised I was ready to deliver and the baby had opened her bowels. She asked my partner to buzz again so that she could have help. 2 students came into the room. Toni was really good with them as one of them was only in her first year and looked a bit worried. The other student I think her name was Caroline was Toni's student and was really good.
Toni explained what she was needing to be done and they understood what to do and followed her instructions. I delivered a gorgeous baby girl really quickly, she was a bit quiet and had to be taken away to see the baby doctor. I was panicking about my baby girl and Toni was so good with me and my partner.
She kept reassuring us both that our baby girl would be ok which she was, it felt ages but she was brought back to us pretty quickly. I then had complications with bleeding and again Toni was fantastic, she didn't panick and explained what was happening and got assistance quickly.
I just wanted to say thank you to Toni as we didn't manage to see her before leaving the hospital. She explained everything that was happening and was great with the students. Thanks again.
