"Lack of care after operation"

About: Clementine Churchill Hospital

My Mother recently had an operation at the hospital and after she woke up from it she had severe vomiting due to the anaesthetic. As soon as she woke up she had to vomit and the nurse threw a vomit bowl at her and did not even bother to help her. Luckily my mother's friend was there who helped her vomit and even went to clean the vomit bowl for her. If she was not there she would have been left alone to vomit and she could have even choked. Considering she was in severe pain and not fully conscious you would have thought the nurse would give her more attention and care. I am very disappointed by this and I expected better care especially as we paid for this operation. My Mother did mention that other nurses were kind and caring but it is sad to say that one member of staff failed to do her job at a crucial moment. The quality of nurses say everything about a hospital and this sort of behaviour from a nurse is inhumane and disgusting.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your mother's recent stay at BMI The Clementine Churchill Hospital. We do value this feedback as it enables us to learn from it and make necessary improvements to our service and care delivered. As you highlighted there were nursing staff that were kind and caring towards your mother and they are the values and behaviours that we expect to see from all of our staff. We are very sorry that your mother did not experience that from all the nursing staff. In order for us to fully address your concerns we would like you to contact us to discuss it directly either by telephoning us or coming to meet with us in person. Please contact Claire Armstrong, Process and Business Development Manager on 0208 872 3842 to arrange a meeting. Kind regards David Henderson Executive Director
