I arrived at A+ E on Monday 22/6/15, in extreme pain in my right hip, after being assessed was put on 2 hourly oral morphine, admitted to ward 15, even after asking for the pain relief I was told they would send the nurse etc, I was left for 5 1/2 hrs without pain relief. Even with all the pain relief, oral morphine,5% lignocaine Plasters X2 Paracetamol the pain was still extreme I was then transferred to ward 36, the registrar said they had requested MRI's to see what was going on. They came back later to say the request had been turned down, as would not be beeificial/cost effective ? After a further few days and nothing happening, I sent an email to the chief executive, an hip MRI was scheduled for Thursday and done on Saturday due to a previous groin procedure. After a few days and numerous examinations from doctors/consultants the treatment ranged from rest to hip replacement, the most practical one seemed to be a hip procedure to shave/reshape the hip, to be carried out by a specialist at the Leic General I was discharged on the Friday the 3/07/15, On Saturday the 4/07/15 whilst using crutches my hip gave way causing a fall down the stairs and a trip back to A+E and readmitted to ward 15 It seems to me that the LRI are willing to treat the pain, but not what is the cause of the pain A hip procedure (Arthroscopy) would have resolved the situation, got me back on my feet, out of pain, and of course freed the bed earlier for someone else, Now i'm having to be referred to private healthcare for treatment, as unable to be kept in this constant pain, constantly drowsy, dizzy due to the medication, also need to get back to work, Get my life back The staff on ward 36 were excellent and the majority on ward 15 Alastair Macdonald
