"The Night staff up on the maternity ..."

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The Night staff up on the maternity ward were lovely and very helpful.

What could be improved

The staffing, due to the lack of staff i had to wait in the waiting room for what seemed forever (well 6/7 contractions.) I had to buzz the midwife twice as she had gone out the room when she finally came in it was just in time to deliver my baby. The following day i had to wait over 2 hours to be discharged, i was told the midwife would be 10 minutes!!!!! I was on the verge of walking out without my paperwork being done!!! Then she turned up we were half way through when she got called away, again i was told 10 minutes, 30 minute later she returned. I did use the buzzer after about 1 hour of waiting and basically got 'told off' and told to be patient. All i wanted to do was go home with my new baby!!!

Anything else?

This was my 3rd child, all of them i have had at the L & D Hospital the first two i had no problems with at all but due to staffing (i hope due to staffing) i did not have a very pleasent time.

Thank you for your comments and compliments which we will pass on to the Maternity Night Staff.

The number of new Mums who come to us each year is increasing and we are actively recruiting more staff to help meet their needs. We are sorry that you had delays with you and your new baby's discharge on the following day. Our procedures are under review and we hope to have a dedicated Discharge nurse very shortly and this should help to speed up the process.
