"So disgusted with the attitude that I walked out"

About: Leicester General Hospital

I was addmitted on the 6th July for surgery which unfortunately could only be partially carried out and then abandoned. This was explained and understood and the rethink about approach was and is accepted. However my short stay on Ward 26 although it started off well, it just hit a downward slide and I am dreading the fact that I will have to go back. It is interesting that when a Doctor gives instructions, the Nursing staff do just what they want to do ....the bare minimum. When one very nice Doctor explained that some of the drugs could cause constipation I was told to just say and it will be sorted. Yes I did say and it was not sorted and I am still badly constipated 24 hours after discharge. When told of the discharge the catheter was removed and was told I needed to be able to go to the loo ok before I left. That was fine and I called my wife to collect me, then only to be told when my wife arrived that it was 3 times plus an ultrasound scan, talk about moving goal posts. Anyway, I tried to ask when, who by etc and was totally blanked which really made me angry and whilst my wife was prepared to pay more on car parking I was not going to tolerate the situation. If things had been explained properly with a timescale and appropriate answers things would have been completely different but they were not. I then decided enough was enough and walked out. My wife in my absence told the Staff Nurse that I had walked out and in the course of the conversation with staff she was told told that I had twice had all of the procedure explained to me. Now if that was the case, why did I know nothing about it. I must be really stupid and senile. I am far from happy and if I end up on 26 again when I do return, just watch the sky for a huge mushroom cloud. I will say that some of the staff were lovely, but there are always those who let the side down. It is bad enough knowing that the cancer is still with me and I do not need treated like some idiot, even my daughter who is a former Nurse was far from impressed when she visited .... Caring At Its Best? I think not.
