"I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else"

About: Crawley Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I saw a member of staff after my 36 week scan as I had a low lying placenta. Every member of staff I saw prior to this member of staff was excellent, however this member of staff spoke to me disgracefully and with no emotion whatsoever.

The whole appointment was pretty much silent, so I had to keep asking questions such as is my baby ok? has my placenta moved? do I need a caesarian? And the member of staff responded saying placenta is 5cm away so I shouldn't need a caesarian (which is the news I wanted to hear all along) but my baby was measuring extremely big which was a worry so I might need a caesarian anyway.

The member of staff casually went on to say that there is a high risk of the baby's shoulder getting stuck as I give birth. The member of staff said this with such lack of compassion that me and my husband left feeling terrified and has urged me to put in a serious complaint so no other pregnant lady has to go through this ordeal.

Dear Pregnant36weeks,

I am really sorry to hear of your experience and I would like to be able to arrange for you to see a midwife to discuss your concerns. Also, if you let me know when you were seen I will ensure that your experience is raised with the member of staff.

You can contact me by email bill.kilvington@sash.nhs.uk
