"The MacMillian nurses were great"

About: Basildon University Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The MacMillian nurses were great

What could be improved

My Father had cancer his treatment was very slow eg test results took over a month, appointments cancelled. He went into hospital to have operation. He stayed in for eight days as his temperature kept going up and down. He was let home but ended up back in a few days later with kidney failure. He had many more things that happened to him. I was shocked to see older patients being treated with so little respect. One patient was shout at for making a noise as he was in pain. I was so upset by this. Another patient wet the bed and the nurse shouted at him. I think she forgot we were there as it was the early hours of the morning. I think some nurses are great, but some should not be in the job that they do. This has been a really bad experience and one I hope my family never have to go through again.

Anything else?

All concerns regarding care of a family member should be recorded and taken seriously. Nurses should be trained in bedside manner. Ward Managers should be there to set the standard of the ward and protect the patient.
