"Total Knee replacment - Elective Othropaedics"

About: The Tunbridge Wells Hospital

My Grandfather had a total right knee replacement at this hospital and was admitted into Ward 30: Elective Orthopaedics. Actually getting to the date of his operation (June 2015) was problematic due to 4 previous arranged operations being cancelled at various hospitals, his visit to Pembury was his fifth arranged operation which finally went ahead. My Grandfather's operation went without any problems and my Father was contacted promptly when he had been admitted back onto the ward. After his operation he was admitted into a single bed room with an en-suite which was spotlessly clean and was cleaned thoroughly daily. When we as a family were waking around the hospital this was also spotlessly clean. The level of care he received was outstanding and the staff couldn't do enough for him or us as a family keeping us informed of what was going on. Contacting the ward to inquire about a patient's progress is easy to do with ward phone numbers being easily found on Pembury's website. The staff we spoke to when phoning to check on my Grandfather were polite and efficient and told us as much information that they could. He had some physio during his 3 day stay which was carried out with patience, care and understanding and has helped him on his way to a good recovery. He was also taught some exercises to do at home whilst waiting for a referral for physio. We specified some dietary requirements which were met with no problems at all, his meals were good quality with a wide range of foods being available. We have just arranged the 5 weeks of physio recommenced after this operation. Pembury were prompt in sending my Grandfather a letter explaining how to arrange the physio. Contacting Pembury to organize this was simple and the receptionist promised to phone back and did helped us to arrange 5 appointments at Maidstone Hospital as this is much closer to us. Five consecutive appointments were arranged over the phone and all the information we needed was given to us so we are aware of all the dates that the physio is scheduled for and the clothing my Grandfather is required to wear. My Grandfather and my family cannot recommend highly enough Pembury for the knee replacement that he had here and the level of care that he received and the aftercare that he continues to receive.

Thank you for taking the time to post such a positive review of the care your grandfather received at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. We were pleased to learn that communication both with your grandfather and the rest of his family was prompt and informative and that the staff caring for him were professional and efficient. We will certainly pass your kind comments on to the Matron for Ward 30 and to the physiotherapy staff and wish your grandfather a speedy recovery. With Kind Regards the PALS team
