My one year old daughter had a rash on her foot so I took her to our GP to have a look. The GP didn't know what it was (probably not helped by the fact that the gp looked about 12 years old) and I was told to take my little one to the hospital immediately, instantly causing me to worry and panic. When we arrived at Charlies Day Unit the receptionist was lovely and called a nurse straight away to assess us. We were told it didn't seem urgent and we would have to wait which wasn't a problem as she was fast asleep! We waited around an hour when a lovely nurse came to do a more thorough exam. And we were told the doctor would see us soon but they were dealing with a sick child first. We waited a little while longer but it was getting close to dinner time and I had no food on me for my daughter. I asked at reception if we could have some dinner and 5 minutes later they came through with a choice of 2 dinners for us- which was great considering we weren't even admitted. After she had eaten we were seen by the doctor who knew Iimmediately what the rash was and we were assured it was a common childhood infection and was nothing to worry about. Although there is no treatment for it we were given advice on how to care for it. We were out of the hospital within 2 hours which I didn't mind waiting for as I understand the really poorly children need to be seen first. A great service and lovely staff, thank you.
