My son was diagnosed with a minor heart defect at term. We were shunned from discussions, important information hidden from us & forced into an unnecessary cesarean, being told we had no other option. We then waited for 12hrs, ignored unless I sent my partner to find staff (very difficult!) while the monitors got worse and worse. I was taken to theatre by a stone faced members of staff who told me they were 'finished cleaning up the last case', barraged by people in theatre, no one spoke to me at all. When my son was born I asked for the curtain to be lowered so I could see him, this was ignored. He was then taken away before I saw him, screaming, and given an apgar score of a perfect 10, no heart problems and healthy as he could be. After he went into the side room, my partner was pushed out of theatre and I was left for another hour on my own, crying harder than I ever have before while the operation ended. He was then taken to the neonatal unit, for no reason. When I was finally taken to him 8hrs later, the staff had to ask me why he was even there! He was healthy!! He was discharged the next morning, the doctor saying the same thing. I then spent 2 days in hospital with him, he was having checks every 4hrs against my will. I was treated disgustingly, like I didn't deserve to be there and the midwives were constantly trying to take my baby to the daycare, why on earth would I want him in their care!? I'll never be giving birth in a hospital again. If I cant find someone to assist a vbac at home, I will not be having more children. I hope the staff are happy knowing that they've ruined my birthing experience, immediate bond with my baby and my mental state. Well done.
"Awful experience, never coming back!"
