"Exceptional care in ESTU"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

My elderly Mum, who has dementia, was admitted as an emergency to ESTU following broken hip resulting from a fall out of bed in the night in her care home. The staff were fantastic, they took the time to understand her needs and communicate with her and me. They were flexible around visiting hours because of her distress at her situation due to her dementia. Every time I visited they proactively updated me, and involved me in her care if I wished to be. I could see that staff were compassionate and professional, and that there were good hand overs between shifts and between different professionals ( e.g. Physios and nurses) which are vital for someone with dementia who has difficulty in communicating their own needs. When she needed something from nursing staff responses were prompt but her care never felt rushed. An excellent NHS service.

Thank you for your comments posted on both the NHS Choices and Patient Opinion websites regarding the care your mother received from the ESTU of the Manchester Royal Infirmary. It was very kind of you to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects their hard work and dedication. It was reassuring to hear that you felt that the staff were fantastic in their care and treatment of your mother who is living with dementia. We were also pleased to hear that the staff kept you updated about your mother’s condition whilst in hospital and that they made reasonable adjustments so that you could be with her. We can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to the ESTU manager and to the staff involved.
