"Thanks for my Mother's care at Grantham Hospital"

About: Grantham & District Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to Grantham hospital in June and was poorly with low oxygen levels. She has suffered with COPD for quite some time and when contracting chest infections her lungs would really struggle to maintain her daily life comfortably.

My mother arrived at A&E and was looked after by the hard working team giving her the best care she needed while being assessed.

The A&E staff were extremely busy but still ensured that my mother was treated to make her very comfortable.

My mother's journey through the Hospital had started and her next location was EAU.

Her condition was poor but she was still able to laugh and joke with all her family, staff and doctors.

EAU made my mother very relaxed and supported her with the respect, love and care she needed while being in this condition.

My mother was watched and checked through out the night while all the staff gave her what any poorly person needed TLC.

The next day my mother's condition worsened. The decision was made very quickly to move her on her next journey to the CCU ward. This meant she could get the one to one treatment needed to give her a fighting chance to recover.

The CCU watched and cared for her over the next 3 nights and the staff were exceptional. At this point all the doctors, nurses and staff had worked above and beyond to give my mother even the smallest fighting chance to survive this condition she was in.

On Friday morning the decision was made to give her the dignity she and the family needed and my mother's final journey was to Ward 1. She was moved into a side room and was made as comfortable as possible during her last hours on this earth.

All the family visited her and made her aware she was loved very dearly.

On Saturday morning at 01: 35, my mother passed very peacefully away with her loved ones by her side.

I write this piece because my sister and I followed her journey from start to finish by her bedside. We both never left at the same time for anything, and over the period of 95 hours we watched each and every action, decision, discussion made by each and every department in the hospital.

We witnessed that each and every individual that was involved in her care throughout her journey gave her everything that they could and more. Their efforts, determination and professional manner were exceptionally outstanding.

Each individual supported not only our mother but me, my sister, family and friends.

The treatments, care, love and attention given to us was phenomenal.

Family and friends are not able to thank each and every member of staff physically who worked so hard as an individual and together as a team during this important time of need so I have dedicated this piece for everyone at Grantham Hospital to explain how much we appreciate their skill, time and devotion to a wonderful women and her loved ones, while having to work under so much stress, pressure and minimal time.

I thank you all for this support, and rest assured that any one who visits the Hospital are in the best Hands with staff that have the biggest hearts, love, professionalism and dedication to do what ever possible to ensure that loved ones are treated for their recovery.

I am a majority that do not like Hospitals, thinking the worse, but knowing if I was very poorly I would be given every opportunity and support needed to be made comfortably and to given the best chance to recover while leaving my life in the hands of such a committed team.
