"My grandfather was in a nasty ..."

About: Peterborough District Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

My grandfather was in a nasty accident in April 2009. The A&E staff stabilised him and sent him to ITU. One nurse in ITU, Sharon and a male nurse were brilliant and looked after me and my family when we were upset.

What could be improved

The dr who told us that my granddad probably wouldn't make it. The manner in which he told us was awful. I work in a hospice and have to give bad news every day and the way he spoke was disrespectful and extremely uncaring.

We were told there was nothing further that could be done and any interventions would probably kill him, then that evening trhey moved him to Leicester General where they did everything that PDH said was too dangerous and saved his life. He's now home and doing really well, which is all down to Leicester General.

Anything else?

I'd like to thank the ambulance and A&E staff for initially saving his life. And Sharon and the male nurse on ITU for their care during the week my grnaddad was on ITU.

The Trust takes the experiences of patients and visitors to our hospitals very seriously and we aim to provide a safe, caring and effective service. However, we do recognise there are occasions when an experience may not have met the expectations of our patients or visitors and we are keen to understand how we can make things better.

To help us continually improve our services for current and future patients and visitors we need feedback and are happy to look into any matter where a patient or visitor is disappointed with the service they received.

This feedback has been forwarded to the relevant department to look into in further detail. Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01733 875847 or email pals@pbh-tr.nhs.uk who will provide help and advice regarding any issue.

Thank you for visiting NHS Choices.
