"Still waiting for a bed"
About: The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore) The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore) Stanmore HA7 4LP
My father was taken to our local A&E with a broken hip 6 days ago. 4 months ago he was diagnosed with secondary prostate cancer in the same hip. We're still waiting to be transferred to Stanmore, where he had a biopsy taken from the Tumour earlier this year, due to "lack of male beds". My father Is given Morphine for 6 days now in order to manage the pain and it's unlikely he'll be admitted to Sranmore for another 5 days before he is even seen by the consultant. The hospital he is currently in is carrying out the scans Stanmore need in order to prepare for the operation. For the last 6 days nobody at Stanmore has been able to answer any concerns we, the family, have regarding the operation. Meanwhile my father is nearing suicide as he sees nothing being done to help him get better and he believes he will not walk again and no qualified doctor is able to tell him otherwise. We're in a very desperate situation and Stanmore have done NOTHING to help my father. Every hospital has a bed crisis, Stanmore is not the only one in the country, if this is such an issue, be proactive a recommend those patients waiting another hospital/consultant where they can be seen sooner. Making patients suffer is unacceptable.
