"Continually reassured throughout my sons stay"

About: Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

my 14 year old son was the free runner who decided to climb a 6ft wall which he pulled the heavy block down from the top of the wall onto his foot breaking it.

First we were assessed in A&E, as soon as the triage nurse saw him she rushed him through, stopping the doctors and asking them to look at my son right away as his foot had turned blue, and was unrecognizable. The doctors worked quickly and effectively making him more comfortable regarding pain relief, and got him xrayed and patched up. They had told me that his xray did have a couple of breaks in his foot but were uncertain of the severity of the break. The nice doctor told me that my son would be kept in for observations in the children's ward.

As I'm also an employee of the maternity ward, I feel its important to be recognized for the work you all do and want you to know how much it meant to me watching you take good care of my boy.

The Doctors, Registrars, Lana "thanks for the sweets", Morag, Louise, Louise, student nurses, Joyce( play worker) love her, and senior play worker Louise? , all the Auxiliaries, Domestics, the rest of the names seem to fail me, but the words I can only describe for this team are outstanding, caring, genuine and working to the highest level professionalism I've ever experienced within the hospital setting.

I was so worried about my son, watching his foot turn blue and swelling to twice the size On the first night the nurse (Louise and Morag) kept a very close eye on my boy and reassuring me at the same time, they never missed a thing, making sure his pain was well managed and taking into account that he was trying to sleep they tiptoed into the bay, did his obs and out again without disturbing him too much. I found this level of care continued throughout our stay.

Not once did I feel unwelcome or made to feel awkward, I was kept up to date with everything, that was happening and continually reassured throughout. As for the play leaders well Joyce saw to my son's every whim, he was sitting in his bed like his lordship surrounded by the Xbox, TV, DVDs, Books, and games that Joyce had acquired for him thank you Joyce. I feel this team deserves recognition and Lana should be very proud of you all as I am, I really cant thank you all enough for everything. it really did make out stay easier. thank you so much.

Dear naechin

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback following your son's recent hospital admission. It was good to hear about the safe, effective and person centred care he received.

These are all words I am sure you will recognise from working in the NHS; however they are much more eloqently described by you in your post when you describe the treatment and the way in which he was treated.

The experience you describe is what we aim to achieve for every patient (and family) every time and I will be delighted to pass on your thanks to the teams concerned. It is great that you have been able to remember so many names as we can make sure these people get to receive your positive feedback.

I do hope your son is making a swift recovery, thank you once again for taking the time to provide this feedback.

Regards

Louise Ewing
