"Treated like a time waster"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute)

My husband returned from South Korea with an infected insect bite and was advised by the Korean hospital and his insurance company to go to hospital on his return home. What a mistake. We were treated like time wasters and told by the "doctor" that he had been brought in to see people who should have gone to their gp. If the surgery had been open, then we would certainly have chosen that option, the doctor was arrogant and really seemed to think they were doing us a favour. they told my husband they should have visited the travel nurse? My husband uses repellents, but some bugs eat through it,so we have been told today by GP. We only bothered going to hospital because the tablets that were prescribed in Korea were not suiting my husband. The very difficult to understand doctor couldn't have cared less. And just as a matter of interest, no one bothered to take hubby's temperature to see if he was a potential MERS carrier. Mind you they probably don't even know what it is. Disgusting service.

We are sorry to hear you feel your husband did not receive the standard of care he expected, and that we want to provide. Please be assured that we be assured that we do take the care of all our patients very seriously indeed. However, the high demand placed on our accident and emergency department means that sometimes we do have to advise patients that they could receive appropriate care elsewhere. We will make sure your comments and concerns are passed on to the team in A&E, but if you have any further comments or queries please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Team pals@ngh.nhs.uk or telephone 01604 545784.
