"Room for improvement for sure."

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

This is a follow on review now we are home after six days on the children's ward. I listed a few pointers in the 'nearly there' review. I would very much like to add on. Whilst I do not want to appear to be only criticising, I do hope PRH listen. From parents and your staff. Do not silence staff, allow them to come forward with problems without the fear of repercussion. *Every single day there was not enough food for the children and pregnant/nursing mums. Several children went without food or had inadequate portions. One parent pointing out her child was a teenager, hinting the 6 chips were not enough after everything else ran out. *could management explain why you made the choice to have play staff on the ward at weekends? Vital equipment are locked away and children left with nothing to do all weekend. We were promised a like for like ward, in Shrewbsury we had play staff 7 days a week distracting children from painful medicial treatment. On both the ward and assessment bay. *consultants are stretched beyond breaking point having to manage clinics across two hospitals. Would It not make sense to close clinics in shrewbsury? Keep your consultants in one place. Would this reduce horrendous waiting times on wards? And absolute diabolical waiting times for clinic appointments. This was never an issue before you closed Shrewsbury ward. Please speak to, listen, and act upon staffs concerns. Send out a questionnaire to all long term patient parents we will tell you how appalling services now are. *discharge waiting times need improving. Yesterday there were three families who were discharged 9-10am, all three were still on the ward 2pm walking around, listening to reasons which were possibly excuses. My personal experience, after waiting 5 hours we were told the drugs required had not been ordered and not on the ward, despite me asking several times if everything was in place; to be told yes the drugs were here just had to wait for discharge letter to be able to give them to us. A lie PRH? Yes. A big naughty one. Ended up having to phone tescos to see if I could purchase them in store from their pharmacy. Had discharge been organised I could have made it back to shrewbsury to collect a repeat I'd ordered the week before. But being Saturday it closed 1pm. At this point may I add the ward was very quiet and many staff hanging around the main desk. I could go on and on. But I hope with honesty you can resolve the wards many problems and improve working conditions for staff and improve the experience for children and families/carers.
