About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

Do not go to this hospital if you want to get treated. Every appointment I have is cancelled with practically no notice and no explanation. When you ring up to ask why the staff are rude - practically to the point of shouting at you down the phone - and refuse to tell you why appointments are cancelled. The Consultant - who is in charge at the end of the day - asked for me to be seen in May but an appt was not booked until the end of June. 3 days before the appt I get a letter saying it has been cancelled for yet another month. Apparently the person I spoke to cannot even tell me when the next clinic is because "(they aren't) my Consultants Secretary". They tell you that you have to treat them with dignity and respect - they want to try giving a bit of it if they want to receive it! If it wasn't for the fact my Consultant is A1 - when I can get to see them - I would transfer to Stepping Hill

Response from Manchester Royal Infirmary

We were very sorry to receive your comments and concerns via the NHS Choices / Patient Opinion website regarding your experiences of cancelled appointments at the Manchester Royal Infirmary.

In such circumstances when appointments need to be cancelled, it is our expectation that this is done with as much notice as is possible, as we understand that this is both inconvenient and distressing for patients. We would also expect staff to speak to patients in a polite and courteous manner at all times and must apologise that this has not been your experience.

It is very difficult to be able to offer an informed explanation of your concerns without having more details, which would enable us to investigate the concerns you have raised further. We take all issues surrounding patient care very seriously and would very much like to hear from you directly about this. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be able discuss this with you.
