"Great care but bad parking"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital / General medicine

Mum was rushed into A&E with stroke-like symptoms following a burr-hole craniotomy surgery the previous week for the same symptoms. She was actually admitted this time on her 90th birthday! The level of care that mum herself, and we as a family, have received has been amazing so far.

All the tests that were required have been done very quickly and all the staff that we have encountered have been very pleasant and helpful. From the incredible Debbie Hammond (Dementia Specialist Nurse), who provided warm and very informative care to both mum and ourselves to the lovely young lady who brought the tea trolley around at frequent intervals, we have nothing but praise for all the staff we have had contact with so far.

Mum has been found to have Pneumatically and is now on palliative care, having been moved to the Frail, Eldery Assessment ward. I have yet to visit her there as we are trying to space family visits out so as not to overwhelm either mum herself or the ward and it's other patients. My only quibble with our entire experience so far is the parking situation as the last thing that distressed families need is to be unable to find a proper parking space to visit, particularly when needing to bring my 91 year old dad who is extremely unsteady on his feet to visit. That said, when I had a word with the parking marshalls they made a call and told me that so long as I had paid for a ticket then I wouldn't get booked.
