"5 nights in hospital"

About: Royal Preston Hospital

Our mum had to stay for 5 nights, 2 in MAU and 3 in CCU. She had two terrible nights in MAU because of another patient's actions so it was a lot calmer in CCU for her. Actual care given by the nursing staff, health care assistants, porters etc is very good and cannot be faulted but what is so frustrating is the hanging around waiting for procedures - 5 days waiting for a scan for example - and trying to find some-one available to give relatives information. We know staff are overworked and the hospital is badly understaffed but like any other family we wanted to know what was happening and what, if anything, needed to be put in place. The discharge process was very good and very swift. This is a good hospital that could be so much better if more staff were recruited to lessen waiting times.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I was pleased to read your positive comments about the care provided, but was sorry to hear that that was in some way marred by the lack of information you were provided with and the time your mother spent waiting for a scan. Whilst it will not alter her experience, please be assured that we are working to improve patient flow and to ensure that our patients do not experience lengthy waiting times for investigations.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. It was extremely pleasing to hear of the high standard of care your mother received, though disappointing to read that you did not always feel well informed at what was obviously a very worrying time. Please be assured that we are working hard to try to ensure that our patients are able to undergo any necessary investigations in a timely manner.
