"Warfarin appointments"

About: Altrincham General Hospital

The new warfarin appointment system on Wednesday seems to work well after the first week. One point noted was that a person in a wheelchair commented that the door to the ward was not self-opening. Having thought about, I think there are too many doors that would need this system BUT it makes it difficult for mobility restricted customers. Its much better than the old hospital.

Thank you for your comments posted on the NHS Choices / Patient Opinion website regarding the care and treatment your received from Altrincham General’s Warfarin Clinic. It was very kind of you to write and acknowledge that the appointment system works well. Patient’s views and experiences are important to us and are used to make improvements to our services wherever possible.

We also would like to thank you for your comment in relation to the hospital not being as disabled friendly as we had planned it to be. We would like to thank you for contacting us with your concern relating to the lack of self-opening doors at the new Altrincham Hospital. We can confirm that the building does meet current guidance for accessibility and as you have identified it was difficult for the Trust to justify providing further measures to improve accessibility. Provision was, however, made to ensure that frequently accessed departments (e.g. Radiology) were provided on the ground floor; that doors and corridor were wide enough to allow for ease of movement; that doors were provided that could be held open (except in instances of fire); and, that there was suitable provision of accessible toilets on all levels.  We will continue to review how we provide services in the new building and cost effectively improve accessibility for our service users.
