"Brain tumor removed and I'm still here."

About: Leeds General Infirmary

I was diagnosed with a grade 2 brain tumor about 6 months ago having been ill for around 5 years previously. Had an awake crainiotomy a few weeks later to remove it. The operation was successful as the surgeon managed to remove about 99% of the tumor. I'm now working my way back to fitness and getting my life back. Big thanks to the surgeon who performed the operation and to my speech therapist key worker who was with me through the operation and was very reassuring and helped me to relax and feel less anxious about everything as brain surgery is a pretty daunting experience. I felt that everything was explained clearly and I was included in all the decision making regarding my treatment. I spent 5 years of my life almost completely housebound while the tumour went undiagnosed so it's great to finally be able to live my life again. Very happy with the treatment I received and feel that the neurosurgery team did a great job for me.

Dear Mr Tatlow, Thank you for taking the time to write to us. Your post is wonderful to read and I am extremely pleased that you had such a positive experience whilst in our care. I have passed your kind words onto the head of nursing and the matron for Neurology and asked that they share these with their staff members so that they too can be aware of the great work that they are doing. I hope that you are recovering well and wish you luck for the future. With kind regards Rosie Senior nurse Patient experience
