"Very disappointing service so far."

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

Let me start by saying that for approx. 10 years I have been treated by Torbay Hospital in Devon for glaucoma. During this time it was hardly noticeable that I was suffering from this illness at all and I regularly used to drive from Torbay to Wales and Shrewsbury a couple of times a year to see my family. I moved to Shrewsbury two and a half years ago and, much to my horror, I feel that my eyesight has deteriorated by about 50%. In February of this year I rang the hospital to ask if my appointment (whenever that turned out to be) could possibly be brought forward as I was sure that I had been prescribed eye drops which were not suitable for me and were damaging my eyes. At this point I thought I was speaking to somebody from the eye clinic but don't really know. Eventually an appointment came through for 19th May (three months' later) in Telford. I am in my middle 70s and my husband is in his middle 80s and we had never been to Telford before. The whole driving experience was fraught to say the least.. I was told by the doctor I saw there that I should be seen in 6 weeks time and that I could change the appointment to Shrewsbury. Lo and behold, another appointment came up for Telford. When I rang Shrewsbury I was informed that the glaucoma clinic was now only taking place in Telford. A few days later I rang Shrewsbury again and was told that this was not so and that I could have an appointment in Shrewsbury, however there were none and I was put on the pending list. The 6 week period is up next week, I am still on the pending list and nobody seems to know when this might change. When I get up in the morning, my field of vision is blurred and very, very narrow and does not improve for several hours. I have to wear dark glasses most of the day , even in the house. Friends and family remark on the state of my eyes as I cannot stand much light. The eye drops I was given in Telford are, again, obviously not the correct ones - which is why I was advised to follow up in 6 weeks. This situation is making me very anxious as I feel that I am going blind at a very fast rate. I would appreciate somebody somewhere giving me some support. My last appointment to Shrewsbury Eye Clinic was September/October 2014.
