What could be improved
Where do I start!!! I was admitted to A & E at 5.20am with galstones in terrible pain. Having asked for some pain relief I was given paracetamol (I was already on strong prescribed pain killers and these didnt work so paracetamol certainly wouldnt). After an hour I was asked if they had taken effect, I replied no, so they said they would give me some morphine. An hour and a half later they returned to give it to me. I was advised that my galbladder needed removing so I couldnt drink or eat anything until after the operation.
After 9 hours in A & E I was transferred to the MAU.(as apparantly there was no beds available on the wards ) Not too bad in there until the person in the bed opposite dropped his bottle of urine which covered the floor and my mother's (who was visiting) coat. The nurses just came and mopped it up with paper towel, where really cleaners should have been involved.
At 1.00am I was transferred to the Treatment Centre (which was completely empty, only about 4 beds being taken up), so why I couldnt have gone straight there is beyond me.
I finally went for my operation at 5.00pm that day, almost 18 hours after being admitted with nothing to eat or drink since my arrival.
Anything else?
When I was due to leave I waited for 4 hours for my drugs, only to be told that they had forgotten to take them to pharmacy, so I left without them.
I was told that my stitches were dissolvable.
2 weeks later they were still very prominant and my stomach was really sore so I went to see my GP who told me that they were not the dissolvable sort, and promptly removed them, as my skin had started to grow over them.
