Jamie and Carrie, the two paramedics who came in answer to the 999 call I placed were absolutely fantastic.
My husband suffers from vasculitis and had been feeling unwell on Friday. We went to the BRI where he was given antibiotics and sent home.
However he continued to feel unwell and was getting progressively worse to the point he was in so much pain I felt I had no option but to call 999. Jamie and Carrie were so reassuring, they comforted both me and my husband. Made us laugh and cheered us up. They took us to the BRI where my husband was admitted for a couple of days.
On our way out after being discharged we bumped into the doctor who had seen my husband on Friday. He expressed his surprise at seeing us at the hospital – but that is the nature of the condition – it flares up very quickly and painfully.
My husband was hospitalized a month earlier with pneumonia, I called 999 at time also.
I cannot fault the ambulance crews who have come to treat my husband, nor the level of care we have received at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. They have all been brilliant.
If there is any slight criticism it is about Southmead hospital where my husband was treated 14 months ago. The treatment and care was great – it just does not have the same atmosphere as the BRI which is welcoming and friendly.
