"The IRIS team performed a miracle"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Mental Health Services for Older People – Inpatient

(as a relative),

My father passed away 3 years ago, days before his 90th birthday after a lifelong marriage to mum who is 2 years younger. My mother was utterly devastated and having lived for, and through my dad is totally unable to cope both practically and emotionally. She utterly went to pieces without dad here which resulted in her giving up everything including eating and drinking and personal care.

Her mental state became increasingly confused and her behaviour extremely disruptive and worrying as well as dangerous. A massive problem was that even though she was struggling and desperately needing help, she could not accept it or deal with it because she was so unaccustomed to people coming into the home.

This is where the amazing IRIS team came in and laid the foundations of ‘socialising’ mum sufficiently to get her to cope with her help from carers in the house. This was an extremely challenging task and the IRIS team worked tirelessly and with great understanding and compassion for the entire situation and all people concerned. They have gone over and above and enabled ways forward now with her care privately which would not have been possible without their help.

In short the IRIS team performed a miracle for which I am ever grateful and have been a pleasure and privilege to know and have dealing with. Mine and my mother’s heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for a job well done!

I'm very sorry that your mother found herself in such distress and so pleased that both of you found the IRIS team so helpful and compassionate. Helping people like your mother towards improvement and recovery is why the IRIS teams are there. I would like to thank you for your kind comments about the IRIS team which I know they appreciate.

Thank you for your very kind feedback about the Mansfield and Ashfield IRIS team. We are glad that we have been able to provide your mum the support she needed during this difficult period, and we are happy to hear that she is now accepting support from a private care agency. I will ensure all the team is made aware of your lovely comments. Many thanks.

Kind regards
