"Day surgery"

About: Southmead Hospital

i had surgery to remove two lumps from my breast back in January time. I felt the nurses were very pushy and rude, I am under the age of 18 and i was very anxious about having the Op in the first place. I struggled trying to swallow the tablets they gave me but just became rude and impatient while watching me. I was finally ready to go down to theatre when i started to feel abit sick where i was so nervous i repeatedly asked for my mum to come down with me to make me feel at ease but refused even when i did get abit teary. I was 16 years old at the time and for her even to just walk down would of been a massive help for me and no hassle for them. once i was in (still sobbing) the surgeon and another two nurses led me down and gave me some reassurance which none else had and before i knew it i was conked out. Generally think they were very rude and did not take one bit of notice of how i was feeling. especially as being this young i would of expected more.

Dear Anonymous – I am sorry that you did not find the staff empathetic or caring during you attendance for day surgery in January. All patients should receive reassurance and feel that staff have their best interests at heart at what is a very traumatic and worrying time and it is disappointing to hear that this was not your experience. I have passed on your comments to the team concerned so they can be aware how their attitude affected you and learn from this. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to provide your feedback and I hope that you are now fully recovered from your surgery. Kind regards – Steve Sykes Advice and Complaints Manager
