"Poor nursing and medical care for elderly patient"

About: King George Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

Big headed surgeon thought my mum aged 93 was unworthy of his care. Tried to avoid treating her at first but I think only because of GP letter he was obliged to see her.

She was admitted to a ward for medical assessment. Ward was short staffed and serviced in general by over-worked and uncaring nurses (one or two nice nurses). One occasion, mum was left in a distressed state overnight. Very distressing for family as well to see the following morning. On one occasion no pain killer provided. Mum was in extreme pain but staff too busy with other patients and handover to next shift. At handover time, they have no time for anyone and for anything, regardless of the gravity of the situation. On another occasion, bed pan requested. 45 minutes later, no bed pan provided. Staff do not have time for patients.

The palliative care nurse was quick and respectful.
