I had a deeply impacted wisdom tooth removed by a doctor under local anaesthesia as requested by me, against the recommendation for general anaesthesia. The operation went very smoothly and the whole experience was very pleasant, quick and pain free. The pre-op consultation was very clear and the risks were explained to me in detail involving me throughout the decision making process. Post operative instructions were clear with the only omission, perhaps, the advice to use ice to keep the swelling to a minimum (although this may not be evidence-based and, therefore, intentionally omitted). Having seen many surgeons over the years, who were reluctant to operate such a difficult case and having been through the same procedure elsewhere 20 years ago and still vividly remembering the pain, swelling and trauma, I was prepared for the worst. The doctor and all staff at Eastman were brilliant and made the whole experience feel like a routine dental appointment.
