"Comparison with St Paul's Eye Hospital Liverpool."

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital

The administration at the Royal is abysmal they have made many mistakes on making appointments for my wife for cataract and retinal detachment surgery. Delayed appointments since October last year, for the retina operation and cataract removal. Information and appointments sent out on white paper in small print, how they expect a person with poor sight to read this I do not know. The after care after the operation is good but the package you are given to take home is just drops and a protective pad no anti septic eye wipes or pain killers included. Nurses on us returning the next day for the post op check, went through procedures they had no need to and kept specialist waiting,he was annoyed with them and said all this was not necessary. This was another administration problem and not the nurses fault as the records of treatment may not have been updated. I have had triple retina detachment surgery on one eye and major eye surgery on my other eye after an accident,. At St Paul's eye hospital in Liverpool where I was treated, they never made mistakes in the appointments ,all appointments and letters were all on yellow paper with large print, retina detachment was dealt with urgently, and you were given drops, protection for the eye and pads and antiseptic wipes for the eye. Instructions on after care were given also on yellow paper in high vis. Black letters I have no complaints regarding the nursing staff and surgeons etc they were brilliant in both Hospitals.
