"Misinformed Doctor"

About: NHS Highland (Health)

(as the patient),

I went for my next contraceptive injection today with a doctor as it would be 12 weeks from the last time tomorrow. However, instead of giving it to me, he made me an appointment with a nurse for next week & sent me away, stating I did not need to go until the 27th as that would make it 3 months. Months don't always work out as 4 weeks so you can't always measure 12 weeks as 3 months. This is the second time I have had this doctor & the second time he has sent me away without my injection. When I returned home I double checked my calendar & tomorrow would indeed be 12 weeks, so I called the surgery where I spoke to a really nice lady who agreed I would need it before tomorrow & said she would see when I could be squeezed in & would call me back with a time, which she did for an hour after my original appointment.

So off I went to this appointment to be told by the nurse yes I would need it by tomorrow, who made out it was very irresponsible of me to leave it too late to come in panicking about it & maybe I should make the appointment for after 11 weeks next time so if something happens I am not unprotected.

Not only was my panicking not due to my own poor organisation, some medical professionals state to come up to a week early, some advise just a day or 2 before, why the inconsistency? !

In addition to insinuating I should have been more organised, the nurse also was rather unprofessional about the fact I prefer a doctor to do it as each of the 4 times various nurses have done it I have had large bruises/been very tender, but with the doctor it has been fine, stating that if I didn't want her, a nurse, doing it then I would have to be at risk of unwanted pregnancy & why am I the only person to ever bruise because of the injection?

I know other people who have also bruised so I know for a fact this is not true, & it is not professional for her to keep questioning this everytime I see her - someone making the whole experience awkward when they are about to stab a needle in you/do your smear, etc, is not ideal!
