About: University Of Bristol Dental Hospital

Like many people, I am absolutely terrified of the dentist. I initially attended on the 11th of June but was advised I missed the allocation period. I was a little disheartened because of my terrible fear of the dentist even though I was in tremendous pain. I was kindly advised by the person triaging to attend the next day but to make sure I attended a little earlier... So I did. I was seen on Friday the 12th as promised and I was treated beautifully. Extremely nervous my name was called and I was seen by a final year dental student and a 1st year dental nurse. They sat me down and talked to me, first getting to know me before having a look at my troublesome tooth. After a thorough check-up they decided to send me for an x-ray. I thought this process was going to include a long wait but I was seen within ten minutes. X-Ray done, I was asked to take a seat in reception and advised I would be called. 15 minutes later as promised, I was called through to another examination room and was advised that the tooth would have to be removed. I was terrified, I have had nothing but bad dental experiences in the past but I knew it had to be done so agreed. I was then introduced to a lovely final year dental student who was going to be carrying out the extraction. I was asking them questions for about 20 minutes before the injection was given and the extraction started. I believe I had to have 8 or 9 injections in total because of the complexity of my particular extraction. The dental student asked for the assistance of their mentor's as and when they needed it. The dental teachers came in and talked to me and also administered pain relief which helped amazingly. Whenever the pain became too much or I needed a break I raised my hand and the student was more than happy to wait for me. All in all, the extraction was around two hours in length! Overall, despite being terrified, this was the best dental experience I have ever had. I am eternally grateful for the help and care I received. I would have attended a lot sooner if I knew my experience was going to be as good as this. I thought I would come back to write this review just to help reassure other patients of the experience I received. If I can face the dentist, you can too. Thanks again to everybody at the Bristol dental hospital, I think you may have helped to cure a phobia and my mouth is now starting to heal beautifully and fingers crossed will be all sorted by the weekend so I can eat a well deserved take away! Thank you so very, very much!
