About: Queen Elizabeth I I Hospital (Welwyn Garden City)

(as the patient),

What I liked

The clinical care of doctors is excellent

What could be improved

The environment needs decorating and keeping clean and tidy. The appointment times were not kept to which is really hard if you are in discomfort. They did not give me a proper explanation of my need for surgery. I then choose to go private.

Thank you for your comments. Unlike private hospitals, we have hundreds of thousands of outpatient appointments each year. Organising the dozens of clinics held every day is a real challenge, made all the more difficult by some appointments overrunning for good clinical reasons. These are reasons, however, not excuses and we know that more can – and is being done – to make the service better.

As for the hospital's buildings, we are aware that they look and feel outdated. This is why the NHS in Hertfordshire is planning a completely new outpatient and diagnostic hospital that will be built on the same site before the end of 2013. When completed, the new local general hospital will be a real asset to the local community.
