I attended for my Day-Appointment for a bowel endoscopy. This was a follow-on to the results I had received from the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
Anyone attending as a patient, who has any doubts about the care and consideration they will receive from the medical staff at the Endoscopy Unit, may be fully assured that they could not wish to be looked after any better than I was on the day I attended the Unit.
I was given the choice of "sedation" or "non-sedation" whilst the camera was travelling along the bowel. Because I needed to drive my car home after the endoscopy had been performed, I elected to have "non-sedation".
The Consultant who "steered" the camera inside my bowel, did so with the expertise of a driver having passed his Advanced Drivers Course! ! ! (that's the best way I can think of describing his first class steering technique with the camera).
I can honestly state that I experienced very little discomfort during the whole time the camera was inside me, and of course, that was WITHOUT any sedation.
There was also a wonderful team of ladies present in the Endoscopy Theatre - all were qualified Screening Practitioners - who did a marvellous job of making me feel fully relaxed ..... because the more relaxed the patient becomes, the more easy is the work for the Consultant Endoscopist of maneuvering the camera inside the bowel.
I feel the need to express my 100% praise for the whole team of Medical Staff who work within the Endoscopy Unit. I wish to record my grateful thanks to all of them for the kindness and care they gave to me, during my visit this June.
"Staff did a marvellous job of making me feel relaxed"
