"First class staff and facilities."

About: Freeman Hospital

I was admitted to Ward 27 of the Freeman Regional Cardio-thoracic Centre for a trans-septal cardiac catheter ablation. The procedure was first suggested 10 years ago when my episodes of atrial fibrillation were few and far between. In recent months their frequency and duration had increased so I chose to have the procedure done. I am really glad I did. Even though the ablation procedure is routine these days I suspect that most people are somewhat apprehensive about it. All the hospital staff took the time to explain what would be done and ensure that my questions were answered. The pre-admission session is very thorough and means that you know what to expect. So by the day of the ablation I was really looking forward to having it done, The nursing staff on the ward are very professional but treat patients in a very friendly manner. This meant that there was a relaxed atmosphere which was reflected in the “camaraderie” between the patients. It’s a surprise so see how many people are involved in the procedure. I think I counted at least six in the laboratory! Again, everyone introduced themselves and explained their role and so I was completely relaxed throughout (perhaps the sedative helped!). While recovering in the Ward I was able to see that my experience was not unique. Doctors visiting the other patients were all professional and friendly. It’s obvious that cardio-thoracic “Team” in this unit really care. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Ward and Laboratory staff for looking after me – especially my consultant who has been so supportive over the last 10 years.

Many thanks for taking the time to post your kind comments about the service you have received in Sleep Medicine at the Freeman Hospital on NHS Choices. The management team and all of the staff working in that area were very grateful to see your review as they do strive to provide a high standard of care to their patients. They do work very much as a team aiming to provide for all aspects of care for patients. Once again thank you for your feedback.
