"Best hospital to have a baby!"

I had my second daughter at the Lister midwife led unit on 30/05/2015 and I could not have asked for anything more! I called the MLU before going in and was spoken to in a really friendly way and told I could go in. When we arrived at the unit (around 9pm) the fantastic midwife welcomed us at the door and took us to a delivery room. From that very first welcome and smile I felt at ease and immediately I was asked what I needed/wanted for my labour. I really wanted a natural, minimal intervention labour and that is exactly what I got. The facilities at the Lister MLU are brilliant and I had an amazing water birth, but the staff were the most notable factor in my experience. The midwife listened to me, encouraged me, gave me all the reassurance I needed, said all the right things to me and didn't do anything that wasn't necessary! I had a very traumatic birth with my first child (at a different hospital) and received very poor care so this complete polar opposite experience really meant a lot to me and I would do it all again tomorrow. I would strongly recommend the Lister MLU to anyone in the area who is expecting. The staff and the facilities are fabulous! I had the exact birth I wanted and I now have the most precious memories. The midwives also took the time to listen to me about my previous bad experience and really helped me to overcome the trauma it had caused me. I felt as though I had paid a lot of money to have such individual, personal care! Makes me want to have more babies :-) So many hospitals make brith a very clinical, unnatural experience with mothers on beds on their backs hooked up to lots of machines etc. After my first birth I knew this was not what I wanted again and all the research shows that active, mobile mothers have more straightforward births and the Lister is really geared up for this which is great!
