Visited a&e last night with my 18month old baby who had breathing difficulties. We arrived by ambulance and were treated by friendly staff who were reassuring, introduced themselves and tried to put us at ease. The locum consultant was attentive, warm and chatty and explained clearly and carefully what they thought the problem was, how they would treat it and offered both the option of going home or staying if we were concerned. The consultant also reassured us on going home to call for help via 999 if required. They engaged well with both us and our baby son. Nursing staff were stretched due to other acutely ill patients - this did mean we were left alone for periods of time, felt like treatment was slightly delayed, and because of x Ray requirements for another patient had to move from the resus bay to stand in the corridor twice - this was not ideal with a breathless baby; I can understand that it might be unavoidable. In my opinion staff are working very hard to provide good care and if required, would feel confident that they would provide good care again. Thank you to all who were involved in the care of our son.
