"Why did I bother!?"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (King's Lynn)

4 months ago I went to a&e as I suffer with cluster headaches it was so bad it scared me! While waiting I was screaming from the pain I waited for an hour to be put in the next room where I waited for half hour finally I'm called to have a blood test the doctor was extremely nice and asked a nurse to take my blood, for which the nurse replied "seriously I can't be trusted" then laughed. So next thing the nurse literally jabs it into a vein which then pops and blood squirts everywhere! After being bandaged up I went to see a consultant who basically had a scuffle with another doctor while I was in the room. I then left the room and waited in a bed where they asked for more blood :( it took 6 painful attempts to get a tiny bit of blood. After that I waited 4 hrs till the consultant said we are just going to talk about getting me referred to a headache clinic, you should get a letter for an appointment in the next couple of days ...well that was months ago !!! And still no letter, and I cant even speak to anybody at the hospital because there never seems to be a receptionist working to answer the phone!! I rang this morning got through to a receptionist who then put me through to the department I needed and I waited for a hour and there was no answer. At this point the receptionist at the main bit gave me there direct number as no one wants to answer!! Even the receptionist got fed up! The hospital is a disgrace !!

Thank you for your detailed posting, I am sorry that your experience as a patient at this hospital has been so fraught and difficult. I will ensure that the Emergency Department are made aware of your experience in their department so that they can address the issues you have raised but I would welcome the opportunity to try and help you resolve your difficulties in trying to contact the outpatient department concerned. Please do contact me either by email or telephone. Claire Roberts Associate Director of Patient Experience Tel: 01553 613459 or email: claire.roberts@qehkl.nhs.uk
