"10 hours in the plaster room and faulty bed"

About: Pinderfields General Hospital

My sister was referred to fracture clinic from A&E and after it was confirmed that admittance was necessary things went downhill from there. Left in plaster room for over 10 hours as no room on wards ,without even an offer of food or drink. Had to ask and sandwich provided was "like chewing tasteless rubber". Rare contact from any nursing staff during this time even though unable to get out of bed herself. In early hours of morning was eventually transferred to gate 12 and nursing care started. However, she had to complain about the bed as she was very uncomfortable (arthritic back, limited movement in left leg following brain tumour several years ago and now the broken ankle in other leg so unable to move very much herself!) and the bed could not be adjusted as it was faulty. Was told that there were no other beds available despite complaining to several staff members that she was in agony. Kept giving her another pillow .During visiting time I raised the issue with a doctor and within minutes the ward sister (who seemed previously unaware of the problem) had ordered a replacement bed which appeared again within minutes! Why did it take over 14 hours before anyone took action? Appreciate that things can get difficult when patient numbers are high but there appears to be a complete lack of "care" involved for some patients with special needs. Disgusting way to treat ailing, vulnerable and frightened patients.
