"Shining example of specialised Nursing"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

I have been under the specialised nurse's care since Dec 2013. From this period until Mar 2014 they have supported my care in a direct, caring, informative & non judgmental way. Sadly in Mar 2014 I was given hours to live due to a chronic illness involving my Liver. I stayed in hospital for 4 months from this date & during my admittance I was greatly cared for by the nurse & the predominantly excellent G2 Ward team. They not only co-ordinated a high level of care , they translated Jargon, counseled & supported family and ensured for me Dietry , Physio and Nursing support, they also in my case helped set up Counseling , external support with local teams as well as helped me with engagement with government bodies. Greatfull I was eventually discharged but I had their contact details if I needed them, I saw them weekly at outpatients & they performed stomach asciates drains on a weekly basis and this awful procedure never once hurt. Always straight talking . Due to this nurse, the support set up by them and their liaison with my GP & Consultants & St .James transplant department , I have successfully gained 6 stone and am not in immediate danger as well as having the ability to deal with my condition. Whilst I'm not and never may be 100% the opportunity for a near normal life seems a possibility in time, something a year ago was not in question - just my death expected. I Know I have maybe 12+months to sort neuropathy , anaemia & pain plus other lasting effects but I also know I have them for support. The trust needs to promote , support, fully utilise & use as a framework excellent specialised nurses such as this nurse. They saved my life & helped me & my family immensely.
