"Not representing healthcare professionals"

On arriving to A&E in the early hours of Saturday night via ambulance I was made to feel most uncomfortable by a number of the staff whose interactions between each other seemed to be making a mockery of all the patients present. The respect that I thought was fundamental in healthcare was not shown. I may have been in a lot of pain and feeling unwell but did not expect that those in the profession of caring for others would assume my level of intelligence in thinking that behaviour such as eye roles, smirking and giggling would go unnoticed. This behaviour was also witnessed by my boyfriend who expressed the same confusion as to the lack of professionalism present by some of the staff. I was wheeled into a bay with no offer of even a glass of water after being sick several times and unable to get up and retrieve one myself I was left for the next two hours with no assistance. Throughout my whole time spent in the department , a total of five hours, this standard of care continued as it was clear that the information that I provided to the paramedics of a chronic stomach problem was not communicated in handover. Therefore I received no offer of pain relief and the doctor who eventually saw me questioned me, the patient as to why he was not told this? I was all in all very surprised and disappointed with my experience and in the future I will feel a lot more anxious if the need comes for seeking assistance.
